Dr. Erin Danowski-Shea began her study of Ashtanga vinyasa yoga in 1999 and has continued daily practice through the numerous milestones of her adult life. She describes the practice as her constant in a sea of change. Through her intensive study she has worked with Pattabhi Jois, Tim Miller, Eddie Stern, and most extensively her primary teacher, Richard Freeman. Dr. Danowski-Shea has completed Richard's monthlong teacher intensive, advanced intensives, and his multidisciplinary courses integrating dharma practice with yoga study.
Her deep devotion and love of the method inspired her to begin instructing in 2002 while finishing her undergraduate studies in Flagstaff, Arizona and continued through graduate school in Portland, Oregon to Boulder, Colorado where she taught at Richard's Yoga Workshop until relocating to New York.
As a practitioner of the healing arts, Dr. Danowski-Shea has found yoga to be one of the most direct methods to modify the internal environment, promoting self-awareness, contentment and patience. She is in continual awe at the strength of this practice in revealing habitual patterning and hopes to impart a framework for students to pause, breathe, and take a look inside.
